Handmade in Kenya, the MALAIKA Maasai Shuka Coat combines a colourful Maasai blanket outer with a soft cotton-blend fleece lining to keep your dog warm and comfortable.
The coat slips over the head, while the chest panel passes underneath the body and fastens across the back with wide Velcro. The neck is adjustable with a drawstring and cord stopper, and a leash opening provides access to a harness worn underneath. The removable beaded necklace brings the whole look together. Inspired by the colourful beadwork associated with Maasai design, it adds a special finishing touch and can be removed whenever you prefer a simpler look.
Although closely associated with the Maasai people, these blankets have become part of everyday life across Kenya. Almost everyone I know keeps one nearby because it always comes in handy, whether on cool nights, for picnics or while travelling. This familiar and versatile fabric inspired this practical coat for dogs.
